Football Predictions weekend commencing 8th March 2013

So we're approaching the final ten games of the Premier League season, and the other leagues around Europe, this is the time where championships are won and relegations are decided.  So who's got the fight for the final challenge?

With FA Cup weekend again there's only six Premier League games, starting with Norwich at home to Southampton.  Southampton need the points more than Norwich as they're hovering precariously above the relegation zone.  Norwich aren't quite safe yet but a couple more wins and they'll be fine.  Predictor couldn't split them as it has returned a draw.  Despite QPR's 3rd win of the season last weekend and Sunderland's faltering form, they're still predicted to lose at home.  Three points for Sunderland will also be huge step towards Premier League safety.  Reading versus Villa is a huge six pointer and the team who loses this will be in real trouble.  Predictor couldn't split them forecasting a draw.  West Brom against Swansea is a game which isn't going to affect the European places or the relegation battle and again this game has return a draw.

The first Premier League offering on Sunday is Newcastle against Stoke.  Again, Newcastle will probably be safe and although this is forecast as a tight match Newcastle are predicted as a marginal home win.  The last Premier League match of the weekend sees two form teams up against each other, however, even with Gareth Bale on fire Liverpool are predicted as a marginal home win.  Who will come out on top, Suarez or Bale?

Let's hear your views on the relegation battle?  Who's going to stay up?  Will QPR manage a miracle?

The Championship is really heating up with Cardiff dropping further points during the week.  Are they going to bottle it?  Watford gained another two points on Cardiff and they could go within two points if they win, as Cardiff aren't playing at the weekend.  Watford are predicted a relatively convincing home win against Blackpool.

Turning to Europe, the French league is really hotting up.  The big match of the weekend is Lyon versus Marseille - second versus third.  Predictor forecasts a marginal home win - what do you think?  PSG have got an easier game against Nancy which has returned HHH.

As mentioned last week the Bundesliga is all but over and Bayern Munich are probably the form team of Europe and predicted a convincing win over Fortuna Dusseldorf.

The other banker of the weekend is Barcelona who play against bottom of the league Deportivo La Coruna.  Although Barcelona's form has been a bit indifferent of late the Predictor still can't see any other outcome.

  1. The Premier League weekend started with the match between Norwich and Southampton and the match sounded as enthralling as the result, as the match ended a 0-0 draw, as the predictor forecasted. Unfortunately, this is as good as it got for the predictions. QPR's survival was given another boost as they won consecutive Premier League games for the first time this season and move within 4 points of safety. The biggest match at the bottom of the table saw Reading face Villa and Villa have given themselves a massive boost with a huge win. That was followed by a match that didn't really mean a great deal apart from bragging rights, as Swansea visited West Brom. West Brom came away with all three points, however, both results the predictor had down as a draw. After a good couple of weeks, unfortunately, the return is only one out of four for the weekend so far. Maybe Sunday will yield better.

A bit of a short summary today as it's my wife's birthday - happy birthday Lucy...!

  2. A much better Sunday we had than Saturday...! Newcastle came from behind yet again to beat Stoke with an injury time goal by Cisse to win 2-1, as forecasted by the Predictor. Another comeback was witnessed in the second game of the day as the two form sides of the Premier League, Liverpool and Spurs, clashed at Anfield. Liverpool came back from 2-1 down to take all three points - can Liverpool join the chase for 4th place?

So that's made the Predictor look a bit more respectable with 3 out of 6 correct scores for the Premier League.

Turning to Europe, Lyon had a chance to close the gap on PSG at the top of the league, however, they could only manage a 0-0 draw against fellow chasers, Marseille. PSG now have a 4 point lead - has this game handed the title to PSG?

Juventus extended their lead at the top of Serie A with a 1-0 win over Catania, whilst Napoli lost at Chievo, which all but ends their title hopes. Milan move with 2 points of Napoli with a win on Friday night.

Bayern Munich's lead is now a massive 20 points as Borussia Dortmund lose to Shalke, who in turn, move into a Champions League qualifications spot. Bayern Munich's run continues, but they needed an 86th minute goal to get all three points - that's now an amazing 21 wins out of 25 league games.

Real Madrid move into 2nd place as they beat Celta de Vigo and Atletico Madrid lose at home to Read Sociedad. Barcelona are still way to far ahead to be worried as I can't see them blowing a 13 point lead.

Anyway, if you can +1 my blog I would be very grateful.
