Weekend commencing 8th February 2013

With a bit more time this week I've completed the predictions for the main European leagues.

The Premier League kicks off the weekend with Spurs at home against Newcastle.  Spurs looking to build on last weekend's away win are predicted for a home win against mixed form Newcastle.  Chelsea's form is also not great but they are predicted a home win against Wigan.  The top four chase is really heating up and Arsenal are looking for a marginal away win against Sunderland.  Manchester City are now lying 9 points behind their neighbours, and it's vital they don't drop any more points against struggling Southampton.  Manchester Utd, although being at home, have got a more difficult tie against Everton, who themselves are fighting for that top four place.  Liverpool are threatening to join the top four fight, and their good form seems them winning convincingly against West Brom.

Turning to the Championship, there's a lot of draws predicted, which highlights how close the league can be.  However, the top two teams, Cardiff and Leicester are predicted convincing away wins.

    Seven Premier League games today, of which most went pretty much to form. The one that didn't probably gave the league title to the red half of Manchester. Manchester City's wheels have really fallen off as they lose 3-1 away to Southampton, and no one can say they didn't deserve it. However, Manchester United now need to complete the job to move 12 points ahead in the title race as they face Everton at Old Trafford tomorrow afternoon.

    Going back to the first game of the day, Spurs were predicted a home win against Newcastle, and Gareth Bale made sure of all three points as he put on another great display as Spurs turned out 2-1 victors. Chelsea and Arsenal, who are also in the hunt for the top three or four won their games respectively against Wigan and Sunderland, both games were forecast by the Predictor.

    The two draws that were predicted in the Premier League for Saturday afternoon were Norwich against Fulham and Stoke versus Reading, the former of which was correctly predicted. The remaining game was Laudrup's Swansea against Harry's QPR, which predicted a marginal home win. Despite predicting the win correctly it was a lot more convincing as Swansea turned out 4-1 winners.

    So to summarise, it's been a good weekend so far with 5 out 7 correct Premier Leauge predictions.

    Cardiff and Leicester are both topping the Championship table and were both predicted fairly convincing away victories, particularly Leicester who were playing struggling Peterborough. However, both teams failed to deliver as Leicester lost and Cardiff could only manage a draw against Huddersfield.

    Turning to the European Leagues, PSG temporarily extended their lead at the top by winning on Friday night, with Lyon not playing until Sunday. The Bundasliga is all but over with Dortmund getting thrashed at home 4-1 to Hamburg whilst Bayern carry on their good form with another win. Juventus played on Friday and also extended their league at the top of Serie A winning 2-0 at home to Fiorentina. In Spain, as I write, Real Madrid are winning against Sevilla, however, I think this is too little too late as they lag behind not only Barcelona but also Atletico Madrid.
