Weekend commencing 1st February 2013

FA Cup weekend has been and gone and a full quota of Premier League and Championship is back.  The Predictor does not yet work on cup matches which is why I currently avoid them, however, as proved last weekend, cup matches are so unpredictable that it's almost not worth attempting.  No mathematical calculation would've predicted QPR, Norwich, Spurs and Liverpool getting dumped out the cup or Chelsea drawing to Brentford.

There's not really any surprises in the Premier League predictions this weekend with all the top teams - Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea, Manchester Utd, Tottenham and Manchester City - returning wins.  The interesting one is the Manchester City versus Liverpool match with Liverpool's league form improving and Manchester City not firing on all cylinders.  The relegation battle sees Southampton sneak an away win against Wigan and QPR's, who have spent a lot in the transfer market (except for Odemwingie who, I heard, was still seen moping around Loftus Road) are predicted for another draw against Norwich.

Turning to the Championship, again all the top Championship teams are returning victories with Watford, Cardiff, Hull, Palace and Middlesbrough looking good for the win.

Unfortunately, due to time constraints this week I've not managed to complete my full range of predictions so have missed out the Italian and Spanish leagues.

    A review of the weekend so far...

    The early afternoon match between QPR and Norwich finished with a bore draw, however, this was my first correct prediction of the day.

    Arsenal secured all three points at home to Stoke with a late goal with my second correct prediction of day.

    However, the next few results didn't quite go to plan, as Villa manged to start to score a few goals and drew away to Everton. Despite Chelsea's mixed form they were still firm favourites to beat Newcastle who have been on a poor run, but their new January signings stepped up to give them a much needed victory.

    The other correct result the Predictor got correct was Manchester United's win at Fulham, but that required a late goal from Wayne Rooney and wasn't as convincing as predicted.

    3 out of 8 isn't the best start so let's hope tomorrow brings some better results!

    The first game on Sunday saw Tottenham visit West Brom. Predictor reckoned a marginal away win for Spurs, and Gareth Bale helped them to a 1-0 victory to claim all three points at the Hawthorns to keep up their top 4 chase.

    The second game ended up as a 2-2 thriller as Liverpool lost a lead to split the points. Does this end Manchester City's title aspirations?
