Football Predictions weekend commencing 22nd February 2013

So with FA Cup weekend over it's back to the Premier League this weekend.  The Premier League  kicks off the weekend with a well anticipated game between Fulham and Stoke - two teams that will probably be safe and aren't in any danger of troubling the teams fighting for European places.  Predictor says a marginal home win.  Win predictions for Arsenal at home to Villa and Manchester Utd away to QPR are no surprises.  A relegation clash between Reading and Wigan will be strongly fought and three points to either of these teams would be massive - Predictor reckons a marginal Reading win.  Sunday's offering is Manchester City hosting Chelsea - if City don't win this tough game against mixed form Chelsea then the title is all but over.  Chelsea won't make it easy though.  Newcastle and Southampton are two teams that are hovering above the relegation zone and Predictor cannot split them with a draw the reckoned outcome.  On Monday West Ham home host Spurs who are trying to extend their chances of Champions League football for next season.

The top of the Championship table is really starting to heat up, especially with Cardiff losing at home midweek to Brighton.  Their lead has been cut down to five points with Hull, Watford and Crystal Palace breathing down their necks looking for an automatic promotion place.  All teams are predicted to win apart from Palace, who are predicted to draw against in form Sheffield Wednesday.

One game in Europe that really sticks out is the game between Saarbrucken and Karlsruher SC.  If you look at the form, league positions and history between both team everything is pointing towards an away victory, however, with odds of 10/11 it seems a good investment.  That's my pick of the weekend.

    A review of the weekend so far. The Premier League kicked off with Fulham against Stoke which was predicted as a marginal home win, and with Fulham winning by a scant 1-0, I think that prediction was pretty much spot on. One out of one so far.

    There were five 3 o'clock Premier League games. Arsenal required a late winner to beat struggling Aston Villa and Manchester United beat bottom of the table QPR to dump even more pressure on Manchester City, as forecasted by the Predictor. Unfortunately, that was as good as it got for Saturday afternoon.

    Norwich come from behind to against top four chasing Everton to win 2-1, to post their first victory this year. Wigan turned over Reading as 3-0 winners in the relegation three pointer, to put Reading deeper into the drop zone as Wigan move out. West Brom and Sunderland were predicted a draw but West Brom edged out a victory which moves them up to a decent 7th in the league.

    Moving to the Championship, both Hull and Crystal Palace had a chance to potentially close the gap on Cardiff who play tomorrow. But they both lost to Bolton and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

    In France, Nice have closed the gap on the front runners with a good victory over Reims. The big game is PSG against Marseille on Sunday evening. The German Bundesliga is all but sealed with Bayern Munich showing their strength with a 6-1 victory over Werder Brehmen, as predicted.

    The big match in the Premier League on Sunday saw Manchester City host Chelsea - with City trying to track down United. Although all three points went to the home team, it still appears a little too late. But it really opens up the fight for top four as Lampard must rue that penalty miss - it could've meant a different outcome in today's game. Still, the forecast prediction of a home win was correct.

    The second Premier League game of the day was at St James' Park as two teams, Newcastle and Southampton, who are toying with the relegation battle, could've both done with three points. Despite going down 1-0, Newcastle ended up 4-2 victors as they move away from the drop zone, whilst Southampton hover just above it. That's a total of 4 out of 8 correct Premier League predictions with one match to go on Monday night.

    Cardiff's title push was given a huge lift today as they beat struggling Wolves and move 8 points clear of Watford. Unfortunately for Wolves, a double relegation is looking like a reality as they remain in the drop zone.

    On the continent, Lyon kept the pressure on PSG with a good win over Lorient. Both teams are level pegging on 51 points, however, PSG have a game in hand. Juventus have temporarily stretched their lead with a convincing 3-0 win over Siena. The game currently just kicking off is the Milan derby, however, are both teams too far away to challenge Juventus? Predictor forecasts a draw - what do you think?

    If the Bundesliga wasn't already over it definitely is now as Borussia Dortmund could only manage a draw, leaving them 17 points behind. In Spain, it's looking just as comprehensive as all three top teams win, but Barcelona's lead seems too much for any other team to catch.

    Quick update on the last Premier League game of the weekend. Spurs visited West Ham with the Hammers eager to get revenge for their loss at White Hart Lane earlier in the season. However, Gareth Bale was yet again instrumental as he scored a late winner to give Spurs all three points and put them above Chelsea in third place.

    Therefore, the Predictor's return on the Premier League this weekend was 5 correct scores out of a possible 9.
