Well, well, boys and girls, what a cracking weekend of football we've got ahead of us!
It starts off with the Saturday lunch time match which seems to be an early six-pointer. Manchester City host Premier League table toppers, Arsenal, in a mouth watering showdown at the Ethiad. Whilst Arsenal have been pretty clinical in the league so far, City's home form has been electric, almost unstoppable. I think Arsenal will put up a decent fight and if this was being played in North London it might be a different result. However, City will beat anyone at home at the moment and can't see any other outcome.
Meanwhile, other Premier League title chasers, Chelsea, play Crystal Palace at the Bridge. The Blues will be keen to bounce back after default at Stoke last weekend which did expose their defensive frailties. However, Palace, although still sitting second bottom have picked up a few points of late and are no longer the push overs they were at the start of the season. Can't really see Chelsea slipping up though, home win. Champions League chasers, Everton, host relegation battlers, Fulham. To be honest, this is probably my Premier League banker of the weekend as Fulham do seem to be in freefall at the moment, whilst Everton have taken a few decent scalps this season. Should be a pretty convincing home win.
The north faces south as Newcastle play Southampton. These two teams appear to have mirrored campaigns so far. Newcastle had a pretty poor start to the season but have picked up recently with some good wins, whilst Southampton had a blistering start but have struggled in recent games. The result is that they're both sitting next to each other in the table. It's going to a long journey for the Southampton players and with Newcastle in the form they are it's going to be difficult for the Saints, who have not actually been playing that bad. Newcastle to just edge it.
Are United in turmoil? Looking at their league position (9th) you can argue they are. Be interesting to hear some thoughts from United fans. With only picking up two points from a possible 12 from their last league games they're desperate for a win. Villa won't be no pushovers though however their loss to Fulham last weekend can't have done them much good. United to scrape a win. The big match on Sunday is at White Hart Lane as Tottenham face Liverpool, but with Liverpool missing a few key players they might find it tough. However, Spurs have often struggled after Europe but with Soldado bagging a hattrick he'll be eager to add to his tally. But with Liverpool sitting second in the league and Spurs only scoring three goals at home in their last league games, Liverpool are predicted as a marginal win.
A quick mention for the big match in the Championship as Leicester takes on Burnley. Both teams haven't really been on great form lately and the draw is predicted. This goes to show how tough the Championship as a league is.
So the top tips for the weekend are the usual suspects with wins for Rangers and Real Madrid away and home wins for Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid and Vitesse. Also, the predictions that might be worth a punt are away wins for Ipswich or the Championship, Torino and Avellino in Italy and Granada and Athletic Club.
