We're really heading fast towards the business end of the season now, with only 12 games left for most teams. Who's going to put that run together at this most crucial time?
The weekend couldn't kick off better on Saturday lunchtime as Chelsea host Everton at Stamford Bridge. The table toppers are on a decent run but it's really tight at the top with only four points separating the top four teams. Everton have faltered a little lately with two losses in their last three games but you can always guarantee a tough game against the Toffees. However, Chelsea are likely to be too strong for them and a reasonably comfortable home win is predicted. Meanwhile, Arsenal have stumbled of late after spending a large chunk of the season at the top. With growing injuries and a few results not going their way it might look as though they're running out of steam. They face a resurgent Sunderland side who looked almost dead and buried before Christmas, but with three wins in the last five games Poyet has managed to give them a fighting chance. Don't think it'll be easy for Arsenal but a marginal home win has been forecast.
I did question whether anyone wanted to win the league this season after the midweek games the week before as all the top three dropped points. Even Manchester City, who's home for has been phenomenal his season, managed to drop points. They host a Stoke side that are undefeated in three games but who are still well in the relegation mix up (along with 10 other teams). Although City have gone two games without a win I fully expect them to bounce back this weekend - should be a reasonable convincing home win. What can we say about the red half of Manchester that hasn't already been said. Out of the title race, increasingly looking like they're out the race for the Champions League and only one win in five league games. They also face another resurgent side who were staring Championship football in the face again only a few months back, but Crystal Palace have certainly turned it around under the stewardship of Tony Pullis. Probably not a good time for United to play Palace and another draw for United is predicted.
Liverpool have been on a good run and looking good to join the Premier League race as well as consolidate that top four position. They play a Swansea side that although currently sit 10th in the table, they're only four points off the drop zone and are certainly not safe. Liverpool should be too strong - home win. Spurs are also a team that have strung a few results together and are hanging on to Liverpool's coattails. Although they're only seven points off the top it'll be a big ask for them to join the title race but a top four is still a possibility for Tim Sherwood's boys. Arsenal could now possibly be the weak link in that top four and both Spurs and Liverpool could take advantage of that. They travel to Norwich who themselves haven't won in four games and on current for and squad strength Spurs should come away with all three points. However, a very below par performance and a long trip back from Ukraine may give the Canaries some hope. Away win predicted.
In terms of the top picks for the week, it's all about Spain and the big three, with Real Madrid at home and Barcelona and Atletico Madrid away. Also, Celtic are always a good bet and if you want to look away from the big European leagues then Sparta Prague in the Czech Republic are looking good. There's a couple of value bets there's a couple out there. Firstly, Lyon in the French Ligue 1 might come away with a victory against Lille, whilst Levante are predicted to beat Real Valladolid.
